We chose the name Kaleidoscope (“Kscope”) for our work with community leaders. A kaleidoscope operates on the principle of multiple reflections. When you rotate the tube at the end of the kaleidoscope, the patterns and colors are ever changing and unique. Each person sees something different. Likewise, through Kscope, we provide a forum where community leaders are exposed to different perspectives. Just like turning the end of the kaleidoscope, we intend to shake things up for our community leaders.
Looking through a kaleidoscope transports you. Through Kscope, we are providing programming and experiences which will allow leaders to get beyond the everyday challenges and grind of their work.
Finally, we think a kaleidoscope is a good representation of the resourceful community leaders who participate in our program. A kaleidoscope is made from loose pieces of color. When all the pieces come together and are held up to the light, something beautiful is created. The kaleidoscope is more than the sum of its parts. Similarly, community leaders often have to make do with what they have, combining resources in hopes of creating something significant and meaningful to address seemingly intractable problems.
